What makes a best-selling photo?
I often get asked, "What type of photos sell best?" my answer is always the same: the ones people like. It's a bit cheeky, but my point is that there's no singular quality about my highest-selling photograph prints that they all share. Also, most of my photography takes place in and around the Hawaiian Islands so the sample set that I draw from is a bit skewed in the first place.
That said, a few things stand out to me when I look at what kind of photos sell best online and my overall approach to photography.
- Color: The natural vibrancy and depth of color are some of the first things I look for in a photograph. The color palettes in the best photos help set the mood of the photo and the room it's displayed in.
- Evocative subject matter: Recognizing a good photo means taking a moment to sit with the moment and discover if it inspires you - and if it does how can you capture that to evoke that same sense of wonder?
- Balance: Whether it's balancing the composition, colors or contrasts, photos that delight the eye seem to fit together in a way that just makes sense to people. Framing a shot in a way that captures the grandeur of the subject matter is one of the hardest things to do as a photographer.
All my acrylic prints are limited edition. That means only a limited number are printed, and when they're gone, they're gone. Best Sellers tend to run out quickly. So if you see something you like, get it while you still can!
Which print medium sells the best for your photos?
My gallery offers two types of print mediums, HD Chromaluxe metal prints (dye sublimated inks) and acrylic face mount (photo paper under acrylic glass). Both are great options for different reasons:
- Chromaluxe Metal Print Advantages: Vibrant Colors and Contrast, Modern and Sleek Look, Durability and Longevity, Zero maintenance.
- Acrylic Face-Mounted Print Advantages: Depth and Dimension, Clarity, Luxurious and Gallery-Quality, superior print resolution.
Both mediums are available with different finishes to fit your space if glare or reflections are an issue. If you're not sure, just simply contact me as I want the art to look the best in your space.
